A few additional notes.

The Bagels he ate for breakfast were from Israel.

The tea he drank was from Japan.

The cup holding the tea was made in Thailand.

Put that in your pipe, from Cuba, and smoke it.

Miyuki,

Hi. Akiko and I were on the lawn except when we went to get food. Then our friend was watching our stuff. We decided not to know the sex of the baby. Since we are moving out of San Diego, we are not setting up a room and no need to worry about color schemes. We are both pretty traditional and want to wait to know. Anyway, really cool the dude is entering the marathon. These days we go to the park every day and walk. Nice to be outside. Wondering what you do during the day every day. You should hang out with us sometime. Send email when you can.

New Evidence Supports Bagel Shop Hoax Theory

Key to bagel shop mystery lies under thick layer of cream cheese

The San Diego Union Tribune (the rag) reported today that Einstein Bagels is apparently using technology to produce images of customers in their stores. A couple of customers known as Bjorn and Mary Ellen were often seen at the popular bagel shop and recently seemed to disappear completely. Local authorities originally thought the couple were simply too busy or too damn tired to make the drive from their alleged Palomar estate. New evidence suggests they were not really there in the first place. It has now been revealed the customers were simply holographic images produced to make the store seem busier. A thorough investigation of the store revealed no trace of Bjorn and Mary Ellen. Although a perplexing mystery, regular bagel shop patrons prefer not to throw too much light on the subject.

Mary Ellen,

Hi. Yeah we went to the food fair and stayed for a few hours. You can read more about it on my home page.

http://howiehayman.com/

Anyway, you were able to spend a few days away from work. Very cool. Yup, we were thinking about coming up there too, especially since you guys are not hanging out in SD much these days. Let us know when would be convenient. Akiko needs to decide if she is up for it though. Send email when you can.

Maichan,
Hi. I think your English is getting better.
We enjoyed the food fair.
We are eating good food.
I am walking with Akiko every day.
It is a nice time.

Hi. We were looking for you guys too. Actually we arrived there at about 9:45 and stayed until 3:00 pm. We were sitting on the grass in front of the entertainment stage. I posted pictures on my home page. Anyway, the next party will be probably on Independence Day. You can find out the details on my home page.

Gwen,

Hi. I am not even sure what to say to you. Been such a long time and yes, much catching up to do for sure. You can reach me at this email address. Actually I am online much of the time since I own 8 websites and adding content every day. Pretty time consuming. I keep my phone turned off and only use it for outgoing calls. My friends all communicate with me online so please feel free to send email anytime. I would like to meet sometime when you are free. I spend a lot of time walking, hiking, and bike riding. My place is one mile from Mission Trails park. Let me know your schedule and we can figure out a good time. Send email when you can.

Aya,

Hi. We are doing really good now. Akiko was laid off back in January and we are spending every day getting our projects done, relaxing, and waiting for the little addition. We spent a lot of time on our Internet projects and pretty much should be mostly finished next month. Let us know when you can meet. Until then.

Howie

5/17/2009
Hi. We are home. Do not go fishing today. We went and it was not warm and no one was catching. We came home without even setting up. Talk to you again.

5/14/2009
Hey, cool. We can meet for breakfast. Akiko and I will be going to the bagel shop tomorrow too if you want to meet. Any chance you can come up for an evening meal. Post comments on my site often. It will make me happy. Send email when you can.

Maichan,

Hi. I want you to send me a nice picture of you.

Then I can change your picture on my site.

It will be fun and you can show your support for Akiko.

Send email when you can.

Valerie,

Hi. I want you to do really good on your finals. Need to talk about your school and you possibly staying at the condo. Anyway, Akiko and I were only going to the bagel shop every morning because it was my idea to give her a nice beginning to the day because her job totally sucked. Now she is home and there is not any need for a diversion. You might be happy to know eating all different things in the morning now. Eating bagels maybe only a couple times a month now. Would be happy to meet you there anytime though. Even better, come up for dinner anytime and stay the night. These days we are doing lots of teriyaki chicken BBQ and many other foods. Yummy stuff. You and I can drink wine together and you can spend the night. No drinking partner now. Akiko cannot and none of our friends drink. Anyway, leave comment on the friend connect on my site anytime. Would make me happy. Ayumi already joined and posted a comment. Anyway, send email when you can come up. Remember to post something. I love you. Talk to you again.

Maichan,

Hi. I want you to try to relax more and not complain so much.

This is a happy time for me and Akiko.

I made the site for your family to see our pictures because you are far away.

You should not worry about things all the time.

Try to enjoy every day.

Talk to you again.

Mademoiselle Maiko,

Salut. J'ai ajouté une nouvelle photo de vous. Tu ressembles à une princesse d'un célèbre château. Très belle et séduisante. S'il vous plaît écrivez-moi quand vous le pouvez.

Sir Howie

5/11/2009
Valerie,

Hi. I was happy to see you finally joined. Actually I was getting kind of worried about you. Hopefully you checked the family link and saw your cute face in the picture. This site is basically a way for family in Japan to keep up on our stuff. Much easier to put everything in one place instead of sending individual email all the time. Anyway, I really want to see you. This is an exciting time for us and soon your brother or sister will be coming. We decided weeks ago not to know if the baby is a boy or a girl. I really want you to be a part of this. I missed a lot over the years and want to experience this again with you. The house is relatively clean now and set up for a Summer of fun. We are pretty much finishing up much of our Internet projects in order to relax the next few months. You can come up and stay anytime. Awhile back you mentioned some incredible news about you but you mentioned nothing after. Really want to know about all your stuff. We missed a lot of years together and should do everything now to make up for it. Trying not to get on you but really want to see you. Send email when you can.

Dad

5/6/2009

Hi. I am going fishing with Akiko tomorrow at the usual place from about 8 am until 12 pm. It sure would be nice to see you once in awhile. Join us if you can.

Joel,

Hi. No problem. I know you are very busy these days. Akiko and I would definitely like to join you and your wife at your house for dinner when convenient for you guys. Take your time for sure. Distance can be a bit of a problem for some couples especially when getting back together. I went though these things before and found communication to be the most important thing. Anyway, everything will work out. I am going fishing with Akiko tomorrow at the Ocean Beach pier from about 8 am until 12 pm. Join us if you can. Anyway, getting together soon. Until then.

Howie

5/6/2009

Hi. Akiko and I really enjoyed hanging out at your place last night. The dinner was delicious. The wine was really good too. It was nice meeting and talking with new friends. We really wanted to talk about your Utah hiking trip though. Guess this means another dinner. Anyway, thank you again and let me know when you can meet for dinner again, or the bagel shop, or for hiking. Talk to you soon. Until then.

Hi. Actually we are probably the only people in SD without a cell phone. Even our house phone is not connected although we do keep the recorder on. We were receiving tons of calls from telemarketers and all of our friends know we are online most of the time. Anyway, our number is 619-697-1698. You can leave a message anytime but definitely better to send email. We will be there for sure but would call you if there is a problem. In any event, we are really looking forward to hanging out with you and talking. See you then.

Miyuki,

Hi. I wanted to send you a personal email as opposed to posting on the evite thingy. Akiko and I cannot make it to your party as we already made plans. Even though Akiko is not working now, it seems we are becoming busier and busier. Many events came up recently and we are already planning our move to Japan. Anyway, hopefully you enjoy your special day. We will definitely find time to get together another time. We are going to the Food Fair in the park again next month. It would be nice if you guys can join us again this year. Talk to you again.

Bjorn,

Hi. I went fishing with Akiko today and we caught a lot. Should be really warm tomorrow and we plan to go again from early morning until about noon. You and Rigel should definitely come and hang out with us. Gonna be on the OB pier in front of the restaurant. Bring poles and line if you can but we can supply everything else. Can supply poles too if you really need them. Probably ME needs to work but a good chance for all the unemployed people to catch dinner. Send email when you can.

Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I were able to put in many hours on the sites the last few weeks. We plan to return to civilization, as it were, tomorrow. We can meet for bagels if you guys are up to it.

This Sunday is the environmental fair in Balboa Park. Planning to go early and stay much of the day. Was wondering if you guys wanted to meet there. Usually at least 50,000 people and plenty of activities. These are videos from last year.

http://sandiegocaliforniaevents.com/san-diego-california-events-videos.htm

Rigel would really like it and plenty of folks there for Bjorn to debate with, especially the global warming groups.

Anyway, let me know about both plans. Should be online sometime tonight. Talk to you again.

Hi. I bought some allergy stuff last year for the chicken pox because initially it was thought to be an allergy. Now sitting in the cabinet. It was kind of expensive and a waste if not used. Hi. I actually took some time off the sites and was able to watch the video you sent. Funny stuff. Yup, kinda thought they were a bit biased.

Anyway, beginning today need to work on taxes, yuk. This past weekend we renewed the passport for Akiko. The embassy folks came from LA to SD as a public service. We need to go back again in a couple weeks.

I continue to add new content to the education site. The more I add, the more I find. Already showing up in search since I linked to it from the other sites.

Akiko is finally getting the recipe site to work and now doing the fine tuning.

Hopefully you found some time to work on your site recently.

Much of our stuff should be finished up this month. We really want to spend the summer relaxing and hanging out with you guys.

Say hi to the kids and tell them we can meet. Send email when you can.

Mary Ellen,

Hi. I am reading your email now. Akiko and I continue to work like crazy setting up the sites. I already made almost 200 pages on the home education site and this is only a small section of the site outline. The site should be close to 3000 pages when finished. Akiko uploaded about 8000 files to the host server and now was able to get the program to work. We talked about going out and Akiko wants to work until next week but definitely the week after next is perfect. Now we only go out for shopping and our afternoon walk. Everything is else is work. Kinda sucks but we really want to enjoy the summer and finish all the boring site stuff now. Still waiting for news on your site stuff. Anyway, tell the kids to hang in there a bit more. We will come out of hibernation soon. Send email when you can.

Howie

3/19/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. I think you probably already figured out we are not able to come up this weekend. This was a long week for us with most of it spent on the computer from early morning until the evening. We only went out to go shopping this week.

We had set a goal to get all of our sites online this week. Now there is a total of eight sites we are working on. All of mine are typical htm sites and do not require any special scripts. The site Akiko is working on is the recipe site and she already installed about 8000 files and then ran into problems with the hosting company server possibly not supporting the files.

In any event she is frustrated and there is no way I can pull her away from the computer until this is resolved. We already sent in a support ticket to the hosting company and now waiting for their answer.

Either way we should be good for the bagel store next week, probably more towards the end of the week. We could really use some time out with friends. Send email when you can.

Howie

3/16/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I planned to put a few sites online but ran into some problems deciding on community scripts and hosting companies which would support them. Really disappointed because the plan was to put these online this week.

Now with Google Friend Connect, it changed our thinking about the new sites. Instead of being stuck with an entire script on the site, Google is making it possible to add modules to get your site to do what you want. The problem is the technology if new and there is not enough modules now.

Anyway, yeah we are busy but only because of our thinking. We both are feeling a push to get the sites at least online before Akiko delivers this summer. We barely go out now except for shopping and walking. We set this month to get everything online at least and then work on it a little at a time.

We need to begin thinking about the move to Japan too. Anyway, things should settle and then we can all get together.

Wondering if you made any progress on the site stuff.

Talk to you again.

Howie

3/15/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I went to the bagel shop anyway on Saturday in the event you guys were able to make it. Getting really crowded because of the coupons.

As much as we want to, we cannot meet on Monday. We installed new Google technology on the English site this weekend and need to spend the next few days working out the bugs. Kind of difficult to explain. This was a Google beta release last year which was finalized on the 12th of this month. Basically you install script and can turn your site into an online community. This will eventually connect most of the famous sites together. It is called Friend Connect.

http://funeasyenglish.com/fun-easy-english-community-group-google-friend-connect.htm

This is something we wanted to do on the English site for years but the technology was not available.

Anyway, now with the script installed, we need to focus on getting this promoted immediately. Probably going to be up very late tonight and I told Akiko we can sleep in tomorrow.

Any site news on your end?

We really want to get together again soon. Next weekend sounds possible. Definitely agree about being too long. Tell the kids, both of them, to hang in there a bit more. Talk to you again.

Howie

3/11/2009
Miho,

Hi. I was happy to get your email. Yeah, many people getting laid off these days. You can see it all over SD with all the vacant stores.

Anyway, we would like to get together with you if you can find the time. Akiko and I made no set decision on moving to Japan at this point and we are still interested in the baby stuff if the offer still stands.

If not too much of an imposition, maybe we could do a potluck and come up to your place for dinner one night. Please send email and let me know what you think when you can. Thanks.

Howie

3/11/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. I was really busy cleaning up the site and could not seem to find the time to send email. Anyway, we might be able to meet this weekend on Saturday morning but not sure. Recently Akiko really wants to sleep in. Hopefully you all enjoyed the new activities on the site. Now adding tons of new stuff and working on a new community. Anyway, send email when you guys plan to go to the bagel shop and we can try to meet. Talk to you again.

Michael,

Hi. I wanted to get back to you again about our situation. Akiko and I received email from her manager today and the company laid off three more employees. Another friend, who works for the company, comes over often for dinner and keeps us in touch with the happenings at the company. It seems like the company is pretty much getting ready to close. It might be very difficult to prove discrimination at this point with many employees being laid off. A travel company, in this economy, is going to be really hit as people view travel as a luxury item. In any event, we are going to keep records of everything as there is still a chance we could move forward with the case if other things come up or if we find out others in the company experienced discrimination. Now we are thinking about moving to Japan towards the end of the year. Anyway, please send email with any questions. Thanks.

Howie and Akiko

3/5/2009
Michael,

Hi. The fact I am American though allows me to understand your thinking. I really do understand very well about Japanese not being confrontational after living and working in Japan many times.

These are the main points now. Because of the developments with COBRA, now Akiko is losing only a few thousand dollars and can stay home during her pregnancy. We think it would be difficult to prove her situation is difficult as our home is paid off and we still receive income from the state and generous benefit subsidies from the company.

We talked about this for awhile this morning and aside from things seeming better from a money perspective, Akiko does feel there was discrimination.

This was a very emotional week for us and at one point we were thinking about going back to Japan. Then the situation with the benefits changed and we decided to continue on with the original plan and stay in this country. The conclusion is, to at least take the weekend to think about everything and make a more rational and unemotional decision next week.

We will think about this over the weekend and maybe into next week a bit and then send you email with our decision. Enjoy your weekend and talk to you next week. Until then.

Howie:

As you probably know, Japanese are not confrontational or litigious. If Akiko is reluctant at this time (so close to the event) then it leads me to believe she thinks her termination was not discriminatory. Regardless, I'll answer your questions:

With these new developments, how good do you think our case is?

Without the meeting and production of documents as set forth in my previous email, I'm unable to give you an opinion.

What is the statute of limitations on a case like this and will waiting make the case weaker?

One year statute of limitations is what I would use. With respect to the events, people's memories dissipate as time goes by, documents get altered, lost, or destroyed; so to some degree waiting makes the case weaker.

As for a release, I cannot give you an opinion unless I actually meet with Akiko and view the document.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Moore

Michael,

Hi. I want to apologize but we need to cancel our appointment for tomorrow. Some new developments changed things a bit. We applied for benefits this week and were declined. We decided to go with COBRA to extend the benefits Akiko had when she was working even though the cost is incredibly expensive. We needed some forms and called the human resources department of her company and were told of news regarding COBRA.

Apparently President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 which contains a provision in which the government will force companies to pay for most of the COBRA costs of employees who were recently laid off.

The main reason for us wanting to take action against the company was because we felt it was wrong for them to lay off Akiko and put her in the position of costly benefits even while pregnant. Now with the benefits being much more affordable, Akiko is reluctant to take action against the company as she feels the main problem has been resolved. She wants more time to think about things. This brings us to a few questions.

With these new developments, how good do you think our case is?

What is the statute of limitations on a case like this and will waiting make the case weaker?

She was offered $500 to sign a long release stating she would not ever take action against the company which was not signed.

Is there a time limit for this release?

Anyway, please send email with your thoughts when you can. Talk to you again.

Sincerely,

Howie and Akiko

The next step is to have a meeting. The pay information and resume are important to determine potential damages in the case. These cases are based upon inferences, i.e., that the reasons given were an unlawful pretext to the real reason of pregnancy. These are issues of fact to be determined by a jury. So, a meeting will help me get more of a "feel" for the company and Akiko. I'm extremely busy this week, but will be available next Tuesday or Thursday afternoon - preferrably at 1:30 p.m. Let me know if this works for you. If these dates or times are not available for you/Akiko, please let me know alternative times of availability. At the appointment, you can bring the documents.

Appears to be an inference of pregnancy discrimination, given the proximity of the termination to the notification of pregnancy. Did they give her any reason for her termination, e.g., downsizing, economics, poor work performance, etc.?

Was she salary or hourly employee?

What was her pay rate at time of termination?

What was her job title?

What were her job duties?

How many people worked for the company (not just San Diego, but State wide)?

How many employees at San Diego location?

Please forward me a copy of her current resume and last couple of pay stubs – preferably by pdf.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Moore

Subject: RE: Pregnancy Discrimination

Michael,

Hi. The following information pretty much covers why Akiko thinks she has a strong pregnancy discrimination case.

Akiko was hired to work at Pleasant Holidays, a Mission Valley travel company, on February 20, 2008. She was hired as a product automation agent and retained that position until her last day of work for the company. During her 11 months of employment with this company there was always plenty of work available for her to complete. In fact, she was offered overtime on numerous occasions due to the workload in her department and the lack of staff available to complete this work.

Akiko worked above and beyond what others in the company and in her department worked. In fact, Akiko consistently was able to find errors in the existing software which the company utilized in the online segment of their business. Akiko was often praised as being an excellent employee by both company managers and fellow employees alike. She was told many times that her job was secure and she need not ever worry about losing her job or her position with the company.

Akiko was also inline for additional training in the accounting aspects of the company along with other departments. We were so confident about the stability of her employment, we initiated steps towards purchasing a new single family residence.

Akiko discovered she was pregnant in early December 2008. She waited approximately two weeks to be sure of the pregnancy before telling her manager the news. Her manager was informed of the pregnancy sometime during the middle of December 2008.

After the manager knew of the pregnancy, things at work began to change for Akiko. The managers she worked with on a regular basis began to be short with her and some even avoided making eye contact. Akiko would often send email to these same managers about errors she found in the software. The emails were ignored and no reply was sent. After a couple weeks of this, it began to affect Akiko emotionally. She would come home upset and depressed and went to sleep soon after eating dinner every night. It became increasing more difficult for her to get up the energy to go to work. Because of her Japanese upbringing she still felt very devoted and loyal to the company and continued to do an excellent job at work even though the attitude towards her had changed.

Then on January 29, 2009, with no previous notice whatsoever, she was told her job was terminated and was asked to leave the company immediately. We believe the company planned the termination to coincide with end of the month to avoid payment of any additional benefits. Akiko was put in the position of being without medical benefits immediately and had to cancel an appointment with her gynecologist for the following week which has been scheduled weeks before.

The stress from this situation greatly affected Akiko and she became nauseous and very unhappy. Even considering the situation, Akiko was unwilling to make a case against the company. It was only recently that she realized the injustice of what the company put her through which made her decide to take action against the company.

We are asking you to please review the merits of this case and represent her in this matter.

Thank you very much for your consideration. Please contact us at your earliest convenience. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Howie and Akiko

Michael,

Hi. We are going to put together a brief synopsis of the situation and send it to you tomorrow. Akiko is much more comfortable speaking Japanese and is happy we found someone with whom she can communicate with in her native language. Again, we are going to get our thoughts together and send you the information tomorrow.

Due to your promptness and ability to speak Japanese, we already made the decision to work with you should you decide to take this case.

Thank you very much for your time. We look forward to meeting you personally to discuss the merits of her case. Talk to you soon. Until then.

Sincerely,

Yes, all my employment cases are done on a contingency fee basis. I advertise in the YuYu. I usually only represent plaintiffs and have successfully sued the majority of large Japanese corporations that have a presence in San Diego. I recently prevailed on two very large pregnancy discrimination cases – one was against a multinational Japanese corporation and another against a very large publicly traded California Corporation.

Just call or write and let me know the details of Akiko’s termination that lead you to believe it was discriminatory.

Sincerely,

Hi. I would like to thank you for replying so quickly. Akiko and I began our search for an attorney today and are waiting for two other offices to send information. Before we go any further with this, we would need to know if your company takes cases on a contingency basis as this is the only way we would be willing to proceed. Akiko is a native Japanese speaker and was happy she would be able to converse with you about her case. Please send email at your earliest convenience.

Meenakshi,

Hi. I am not going to be able to make it with Akiko for dinner this weekend. Kind of a mess now. We are between insurance carriers and now Akiko is not feeling good because of a messed up tooth. Hopefully things will settle a bit over the next few weeks. Will keep you updated. Send email when you can.

Howie

Dudes,

Hi. I wanted to give you a bit of an update. Akiko now has a messed up tooth. We are without insurance because Kaiser turned Akiko down because she is pregnant. Seems like discrimination. Seems like things were gonna really suck but then this.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 contains a COBRA provision which means the previous company needs to pay most of the cost for the continuation of our benefits. Yippee.

On another note, was reading stuff about the economy. Seems like the shit will really hit the fan in the next few months. Geeez.

Finished up an incredibly time consuming project on the English site. Changed 250 pages in the Travel America and Travel Abroad sections.

Anyway, this is a long time for all of us not to meet. Sure will be nice to get together when you return. Hopefully we can make it up to your place for the weekend as you offered. Will depend on her tooth, otherwise looks good. Send email when you can.

Howie

Mary Ellen,

Hi. No worries. Actually we plan to spend the next couple weeks finishing up many projects too. This past week we were able to get rid of the car and set up a lot of our financial stuff. We also made a lot of progress on finally finishing up the English site. Akiko is working on the tech stuff for the new sites now. Anyway, yeah meet in a couple weeks when you get caught up on your work. Communicate through email from now until then. Talk to you again.

Howie

Mary Ellen,

Hi. We really want to meet you guys but need a couple more days to get our stuff done. Next week will be good for us. Akiko is pretty determined to stay in this country for awhile but the way things are going with the economy and everything, my thinking is to go to Japan. Either way making a good beginning this week towards moving. Hey, send some news about your progress on the site. We plan to make a couple new sites next month. Talk to you again.

Howie

2/26/2009
Michael,

Hi. I wanted to mention a couple things we thought of the other night. Akiko said out of the three offices nationwide, only the SD office has her department. She said that there were approximately 15 people in her department when her job was terminated and she was the only one to be fired. In addition, beginning this month they are making people in her department work on the weekends to pick up the slack due to an increased work load in the department. Go figure. Anyway, please add this information to the file. See you next week. Until then.

Howie and Akiko

2/26/2009
Joe,

Hi. I am sending the form you requested. This past year Akiko and I went on a couple trips to northern California and drove a lot. Now we are home and working together on our Internet businesses. We drive to the grocery store and back a couple times a week. Aside from that now the truck is basically not used. Send email if you need additional information. Thanks.

Howie

Michael,

Hi. We were unable to get the pay information scanned and decided to wait until your determination about the case. Please let us know if this information is immediately necessary for your determination and we will try to get the pay information to you as soon as possible. Thanks

Bjorn,

Hi. We are pretty much in for the week and trying to get everything done at the same time. All the insurance bullshit and other unfinished projects are kind of getting to us this week. Now we decided to focus and finish everything before going out and enjoying ourselves. Should be back to normal and can meet next week. Akiko and I really need to be out of the house again. Send email when you can.

Michael,

Hi. These are the answers to your questions.

Did they give her any reason for her termination, e.g., downsizing, economics, poor work performance, etc.?

They told her they were laying her off due to the poor economy and her position was no longer needed.

Was she salary or hourly employee?

Hourly.

What was her pay rate at time of termination?

$13.31 per hour.

What was her job title?

Product Automation Agent.

What were her job duties?

Data entry, processing information.

How many people worked for the company (not just San Diego, but State wide)?

Not exactly sure but approximately 200, this is really a guesstimate.

How many employees at San Diego location?

Approximately 30.

Please forward me a copy of her current resume and last couple of pay stubs – preferably by pdf.

We cannot get this information to you until tonight. A friend of ours has a scanner and would be able to scan the information and then we can send it to you. Hopefully this is acceptable.

Additional note. There were two other people laid off at the same time but we think this was possibly a smokescreen to get rid of Akiko. The company has, on numerous occasions, fired employees and then hired them back.

Please send email if you require any additional information.

Howie and Akiko

Joe,

Hi. I would like you to please cancel the insurance on the 1994 Toyota Camry ASAP. The car is not running and we are getting rid of it this week.

Please send email to confirm you received this. Thanks.

Until then.

Sincerely,

Howie and Akiko

Michael,

Sincerely,

Howie and Akiko

2/23/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I cannot meet for breakfast this week. We decided to get all the BS done this week, including work related stuff, the car, and other things. We are a bit depressed too and considering going to Japan early. We prefer to meet you guys next week when everything is done and we can be more fun. You can still send email this week with any questions about site stuff. Hopefully your week will be good. Send email when you can.

Howie

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to you on behalf of my wife, Akiko Hayman, who was recently terminated from her company, we believe, due to her current pregnancy. We initially were not planning any legal action against her company, but reflecting back on the entire situation along with recent developments in the company, has prompted us to now consider taking legal action. We are looking for an attorney who will take the case on a contingency basis. Please contact us at our email address for any additional information you may require in making your determination to take the case. Thank you very much for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

Howie Hayman

Hi. We will definitely try to make it and thanks for the update. The videos are pretty boring grammar stuff….prepare yourself. Anyway, we are marketing like crazy and Akiko is really getting into her cooking site. This should be really fun when all these sites come together. Anyway, hang in there with moving, work, and all the municipal crap. Talk to you soon. Until then.

Valerie,

Hi. I was thinking about what a good kid you are. Really miss hanging out with you. Actually the last Monday you wanted to meet, me and Akiko were stuck up in the mountains because of the snow. Try and reschedule. I miss you a lot. Send email when you can.

Dad

2/22/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. I think we can make it on Monday but not sure. For some reason, really wiped out this week. If not, definitely communicate though email about site stuff. Finally caught up on the videos. Talk to you again.

Howie

2/20/2009
Hey guys,

We might be at the bagel store tomorrow. Slept in today after feeling like crap for the last couple days. The workout in the mountains was the beginning. Spent the next day Wednesday cleaning and vacuuming on my hands and knees preparing the place for our friend who stayed with us that night. Drank too much and then on Thursday, was felling pretty awful. We were supposed to go shopping today which now will be tomorrow. Anyway, we might be able to meet for a bit in the morning if you guys plan to be there. Either way keep us posted about your progress on the site. Talk to you again.

Howie, Akiko

2/13/2009
Yup, see you soon then.

2/13/2009
We are packed and would like to come up tonight if no problem. Any chance for ME to come over today and go????

2/13/2009
We forgot about the potential for many people tomorrow on the road up the mountain.

2/13/2009
Guess this is getting a bit confusing hehe. Akiko is all ready to go and maybe wants to go today but gonna ask her. Crazy stuff.

2/13/2009
Um, actually we are kind of ready to go now and thought she might want to go with us tonight????

2/13/2009
Hey, more shit. A bit of a truck issue but nothing out of control. Need to top off some fluids and then ready to go. We need at least another hour. Convinced Akiko the storm is not a problem and can leave in a bit. Tell ME she can come over and go with us if she wants. We would need to go straight to your house though. Akiko gets pretty car sick sometimes on the drive. We could also come up tomorrow if more convenient. Give the working girl a much deserved time out from driving. Going outside to do the truck and then back online for your answer.

2/13/2009
Pretty close to leaving now. Gonna be offline.

2/13/2009
Hi. Actually things are getting kind of frenzied now. Still trying to get out of the house but a few things came up. Back toilet needs repair. Getting tons of crap from a friend from my home town for not posting about Buffalo events. Akiko really wants to leave early because of the storm. Trying to post two more class videos. oy ve, quite a day. Really looking foward to some cheap wine and relaxing tonight. Will keep you updated on the efforts to leave. Until then.

2/13/2009
Hey, wondering if ME is planning to drive in with us on Monday. Friends in RB want to see us. Thinking about going there on the way back. Send email when you can.

2/13/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. I received email from ME and it looks like we will be driving separately. No doubt you know about the news from Buffalo. Kind of hanging around a bit longer today as we are receiving a lot of email from friends in Buffalo. Some friends affected, although not directly so far. Anyway, we plan to get up there late afternoon if possible to stay ahead of the approaching storm.

Please send email and let us know when someone will be at your house. Thanks.

Howie

2/13/2009
Meenakshi,

Hi. I think Akiko and I will stay in SD until the end of the year. Yes of course we want to see you again. We are pretty free next month and would like to get together for dinner again. Talk to you again.

Howie

2/13/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Actually riding with us would be not problem except for two things.

You would need to park your car on the street since we already told our roommate he could park in our spot over the long weekend.

The other thing is we need to take a straight shot to your place. Akiko gets really car sick. In fact we might take 15 to 76 this time. The other way is too bumpy for her.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Akiko made tons of food. The curry should be two meals. We also bought garlic bread to go with the lasagna. We are bringing other stuff too. This should be really fun.

Send email about all this when you can.

Howie

2/12/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I enjoyed meeting you too. Plenty of fun talking anytime.

Really surprised the store is not stocking the program. Anyway, going to try to find the other program for you to load onto your computer. I think if we all put our heads together, we can get the router going though.

Anyway, it looks like we will head up there tomorrow towards the early evening. This way you will not need to make dinner. The storm should begin in the late afternoon and they expect a fair amount of snow. The storm on Sunday should bring a lot more though.

Anyway, Akiko is making the food tonight and I should be online for awhile. Thank you for the tax links. Going to get into that garbage sometime next week. Talk to you again.

Howie

2/12/2009
Valerie,

Hi. I can meet you at the bagel shop next week with Akiko if you want. Many things to talk about. I want to know what happened with the other parent. You do not need to talk about it if you do not want to. Tomorrow is the gay marriage lesson on the English site. You might want to get your friends to post something on the board. Send email when you can.

Dad.

2/10/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I can make it Thursday morning at 7:30 no problem. We are thinking about coming up this weekend, but quite honestly, we don’t want to overstay our welcome. Akiko being Japanese, makes her really worry about these things. We really want to know this is not a problem for you guys. We are making a warm food plan if we do come up though.

Anyway, the recorder names are really good. Already many thoughts on why some would be better. The router is an excellent idea. You can use the computer anywhere in your house and you can build in some good security. These things are pretty cheap and well worth it. We can do an Internet party at your dining room table. Fun stuff.

If you get it this week, we can all work on setting it up. You might consider going to Best Buy in Santee and talking to Robert. If you go, tell him the guy from Buffalo with the Japanese wife sent you. Trying anytime to find a knowledgeable salesperson and this guy knows his stuff.

Now working on a long overdue project. Completely redoing the site pages to make them more user friendly. Now updating about 160 grammar pages. The cutting and pasting extravaganza. Pretty boring. Anyway, talk to you in a couple days. Until then.

Howie

2/9/2009
Hey, I was thinking. If you guys decided to get a router, then we could all do an Internet and site party on your dining table. It would be totally cool. The routers are only about 40 bucks for a linksys brand. You could still keep your other computers hardwired upstairs. Let me know if you need any more information.

2/9/2009
marilyn
Yup, this is total bullshit. Already sent an email to the manager, her manager and the owner of MEAN ASS management company. They said no idea when everything will be back to normal. Cannot believe many residents spent the last few days in a hotel. We were at our friends house up in Palomar from Friday until Sunday night and expected everything to be back to normal already. You are completely justified in being pissed off about all this.

2/9/2009
Shari,

Hi. I was holding off complaining about this for as long as possible but this is ridiculous. My wife and I spent the weekend up in the mountains with friends this past weekend due to the utilities being off. We expected everything to be turned on already. We understand the showers in the recreation building are unaffected but who wants to walk out in the rain to use them. Really cannot understand why they do not wait until the Summer to do this stuff when it would be more convenient for everyone. Want to know when everything will be back to normal. Send an answer as soon as you can.

Howie

2/9/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. I kinda figured you would get more snow up there. We shoulda stayed longer. We cannot take a shower as the meter is still off. Suppose they are waiting for SDGE to turn everything on again. Condos suck.

Anyway, we will most likely come up again next weekend if it is not a problem for you guys. You should get a fair amount of snow again next week if the predictions come to fruition. We plan to bring a couple of different warm meals this time. We would come up maybe Friday again to avoid the throngs of city dwelling snow collectors and depending on the updated forecast. Let us know if this works for you.

About the recorder site stuff. The dude in the YouTube video was a bit creepy. You could do much better. Keep on making the list of site names.

About the making the videos. I would like to make two different sets of videos with you next weekend. One set will be of you playing your various instruments. I would like you to send a list of the instruments you plan to play, hopefully all of them. You could also send some very basic information about each instrument if you want. I can get this information if you are too busy. These videos will be posted to the English YouTube account and embedded on the English site.

The other set of videos will be of you discussing your views about many of the topics we talked about over bagels and wine during our various meetings. I am not going to include subtitles for these videos as this would obviously be too time consuming. These videos will be posted to the SD YouTube account and embedded on the SD site.

Ask Mary Ellen when she needs to leave the bagel shop on Wednesday. Might be able to talk Akiko into going early.

Send email when you can.

Howie

2/9/2009
marilyn
No and this is total bullshit. Wondering why these assholes cannot wait until the Summer to do this stuff. Sure you can use the showers in the recreation room but who wants to walk out there when it is pouring rain. Really pissed off now.

2/9/2009
Marie,

Hi. I want to be really straight about this. Now with Akiko being pregnant and home every day we really value our privacy. Recently we stayed in the mountains with our friends up in Palomar and many friends coming for dinner or staying as house guests. It is a really nice time for us.

We are already renting a room to a guy, who is also my friend, which would not be possible if it was anyone else. This guy is extremely quiet and literally stays in his room the entire time except for eating. It is almost like there is no roommate. Usually I am only going to rent to women. Anyway, assuming your BF is not college student age, it would be impossible for me to stay in the same house with someone older, who is not related to me, who is a guy, and who is set in his ways.

Was kind of wondering if you considered him staying with your sister, which seems like the obvious choice.

Anyway, hopefully you understand. Nice to know you are back in a relationship again. Send email when you can.

Howie

2/9/2009
Bjorn, Mary Ellen,

Hi. Akiko and I really want to thank you guys for this past weekend. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was really foggy on the way down the mountain. Then it was raining quite a bit on the freeway. Now it is really pouring. No doubt you guys are getting tons of snow this morning. Anyway, I plan to get tons of videos and other site stuff done this week. Not sure if you were kidding about coming up next weekend but going to prepare the other computer to bring if we really do get together. There is supposed to be another storm next weekend. We would probably bring hot food this time, like curry or something which would fit better on a snowy weekend. Anyway see what happens this week with your work and stuff. As for us, today is a nice day to stay in and work on the computer and watch the rain. Nice but not quite as nice as looking at the snow in your yard. Keep thinking of names for your site….your homework. Send email when you can.

Howie, Akiko

2/6/2009
Bjorn,

Hey, related to your useful email, I uploaded a few porno videos. Um, not really porn but made them to prove a point. Will talk about this more when we come up. Go to the classroom and click on the February 9 link to see the videos.

Akiko is done cooking and getting ready to head up there. Probably offline from now. See you in a few hours. Until then.

Howie

2/6/2009
Bjorn,

Hey, I wanted to make sure the roads are pretty descent up there. Now we are really getting a lot of rain. Been up working for a while. Akiko will get up soon to make the food for the weekend. Anyway, send email about the precipitation and roads when you can.

Howie

2/5/2009
Um, assuming no bagel shop then. We will be coming up in the early afternoon with plenty of goodies. Until then.

2/4/2009
Yup, sent email to the management company and found out. Heading up to the mountains and staying with friends for the weekend. The tenting will not be done this year. Check out the new pronunciation videos.
http://funeasyenglish.com/american-english-pronunciation.htm
Click on any lesson.
Thanks.

2/4/2009
Hey, not sure about the powder stuff and all but happy to work on the wood or anything else if you need it. Probably cannot make the bagel shop tomorrow as we need to finish up a lot of projects and I told Akiko she would not need to get up early until Friday. Be fun to meet then. Hopefully Mary Ellen can hang out for a bit before heading off to work. Anyway, trying to finish up a bunch of videos. Should be on the computer until the wee hours. Send email if you are online. Talk again.

2/4/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. I received your other emails but spent the last couple days working on videos to get ahead before coming to your place. Could not reply as quickly as usual.

About clicking the Google ads. Crap, now I owe you about 2.5 cents. hehe. Actually though, be sure not to click to much as Google tracks IP addresses. Too many clicks and they could ban your Internet from receiving some of the site content.

About Ancient FM. Akiko and I now can happily, and merrily, listen to those wonderful renaissance sounds streaming through the computer. The media player will not work on my computer but works on the other computer.

About this Friday. Wondering if you guys can still meet at the bagel shop in the morning. We are looking forward to it.

About this weekend. It looks like we will come up on Friday to avoid the lowering snow levels and the potential requirement to need snow chains on Saturday. There is a chance we could get snowed in at your place until Sunday. Really wondering if this is no problem for you guys. We plan to bring a lot of extra food.

We plan to bring the monster with us, aka our larger laptop. Yup, a bit of Internet, Google gadget, and site design classes for you if you’re into it. Since you and I will most likely be drunk, Akiko will be conducting the classes.

Akiko is using a translator program to upload our videos on foreign versions of YouTube. While she was looking for YouTube like sites, she came across an unbelievable porn site. Unbelievable in terms of popularity. The site is ranked 49 in Alexa for world sites. Incredible some of the stuff on the Internet. Anyway, we will soon be seen throughout Russia, China, and Japan. This Internet stuff is tons of fun. Cannot wait until you guys begin getting into it. Anyway, send me an email when you can. Until then.

Howie

2/4/2009
Shari,

Hi. I want to thank for replying this quickly. My neighbor tends to get a bit excited about these things and decided it was better to get the information from the source. Anyway, about the tenting. My wife and I plan to go back to Japan for awhile next year and will definitely be sure to coordinate the trip to coincide with the tenting. Keep us posted with any changes. Thank you again.

Howie

2/4/2009
Shari,

Hi. I received email from one of my neighbors in the same building today. She said we would be without hot water for three days and we would need to leave our places for three days due to termite tenting of our building. I need to know the dates of these events ASAP. Since you already know this information, I am expecting you to send a reply today, NOT next week as usual. Thanks.

Howie

2/4/2009
Takumi,

Hi. I want to let you know it will be no problem at all for you to stay with us. Actually I began the spring cleaning of the house this week. Maybe you can bring a cheap bottle of wine and you and I can get drunk together. Yeah very cool. We can hang out together and catch up on everything. Again, no problem at all. Send email when you can.

Howie

2/2/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. I am already preparing for coming up this weekend. Akiko is going to make a really good appetizer. Something similar to qagh but a little more Japanese.

Hey, San Diego’s finest prognosticators….yeah right….are predicting quite the little storm this weekend, actually supposed to be end of the week. They originally predicted the snow levels to be pretty low and then subsequently took it out of the forecast. Probably nothing to worry about as these guys are usually about a half day off. Um, in any event, was kinda wondering if we could come up Friday afternoon IF the storm comes as predicted to avoid any hassle from the Municipal Corporation’s henchmen requiring all mountain travelers to carry chains. Still planning to meet at the bagel shop Friday morning if you guys are in town.

Send email when you can.

Howie

2/2/2009
Ry,

Hey, this is Howie and Akiko, customers at your store. I thought it would be a good idea to send some of my Internet stuff with a bit of an explanation.

These are my sites.

http://funeasyenglish.com/

1600 pages, should reach about 10,000 visitors per day this summer

Pronunciation section with 44 new videos. Took a lot of time to make.

http://funeasyenglish.com/american-english-pronunciation.htm

New classroom section. Putting a lesson per day.

http://funeasyenglish.com/classroom-free-online-english-language-lesson.htm

http://sandiegocaliforniaevents.com/

450 pages, not a money maker but we get tons of comp tickets to stuff around town in exchange for posting events.

http://japaneselanguageculturefood.com/

1500 pages, my personal study site, now becoming pretty popular

YouTube account with our videos. Some are good, some are pretty freaking boring but good for studying English.

http://www.youtube.com/user/FunEasyEnglish

Another YouTube account.

http://www.youtube.com/user/sandiegoevents

Took 2nd place in a Democratic Party of California video contest for this one and received $3000.

Google Picasa account with some of our pictures.

This should keep you busy for awhile. Anyway, the videos you would be in would be conversation videos. Basically different situations international students might encounter. Funnier is better. Anyone in the videos would be listed in the credits at the end. Good exposure if some of your friends are aspiring actors. Planning to get this together within the next few weeks. Maybe we can do a potluck at our place and talk about it. Akiko is a really good cook. Incidentally our place is only a couple miles from your store. Anyway, send email when you can.

Howie

2/1/2009
Um, oy ve pretty early but gonna go anyway to meet ME before work. Incidentally the eggs taste much better when not store bought. Incredibly fresh. Feel free to bring them anytime if buckets of them are sitting around. hehe. We can all engage in some rocking conversation tomorrow. Until then.

2/1/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. I worked until late at night and early this morning and finally was able to finish the 44 pronunciation videos. This puts an end to the most time consuming video project to date.

Go to the English site

http://funeasyenglish.com/

Click Pronunciation

Then click on any of the lessons to see the videos.

Now I can actually relax today. Hey, Akiko and I really enjoyed meeting you guys at the bagel shop yesterday. It was four hours of talking which went really fast for sure. Thanks again for the eggs. We ate four of them this morning in some kind of omelet thingy.

Anyway, not really planning to go to the bagel shop on a regular basis anymore as this was mostly a diversion for Akiko in the morning because of her suck job. We will for sure come out though anytime to see you guys when you make the drive down.

I really want to know if you guys are good about us coming up for the weekend next week. I am really weird about imposing on people but we really do want to come. If this really is no problem we plan to stay over again like last time pending any of the following possible occurrences.

Global financial meltdown

Riots at the Palomar Observatory (crazy astronomers)

Drive by sushi throwing Japanese

Meteor slamming into the planet

Ron Paul running around the streets naked

Anyway, aside from these potentially disturbing events, we plan to come up. Send email if you plan to go out to the bagel shop this week. Talk to you again.

Howie

1/29/2009
Hey, I forgot to thank you for sending the links to your friends. I really appreciate it. Now Akiko will be marketing the site full time in Japan. Anyway, thank you again.

1/29/2009
Mary Ellen,

Hi. I am sitting with Akiko now and we really wanna see you. Yup, tomorrow is a bit early but Saturday around 7:00 am is good. Akiko is officially unemployed now and everyday is a holiday. We can hang out longer now. See you then.

Howie

1/29/2009
Bjorn,

Hi. Actually this weekend we are watching the Super Bowl advertisements, um not the game. The following weekend might work though. Be sure to let me know when you plan to be at the bagel shop. We probably will not be going much unless we know you and or Mary Ellen will be there. Send email when you can.

Howie

1/29/2009
Bjorn,

Hey, I sent this email to you and Mary Ellen last night but no reply. Now wondering if you received it and sending it again. Akiko and I went shopping today and ran into a lady who often goes to the bagel store. She said you guys were looking for us. We really wanna see you. Send email tonight and let me know the next time you plan to go there. We can talk as long as you want now, even until the cows come home. Why?

Because Akiko was laid off today. Yup, she is now among the ranks of the unemployed. This is actually pretty good timing for us though since I need her back on the computer to do techie stuff. The English site is pretty much getting a new record for visitors every night. Now adding tons of content.

Today I was home playing with PlayDoh. Yup, was using it to make a pronunciation model. Pretty funny actually. Check the English site and click on Pronunciation and then on any of the lessons. Send email when you can.

Bjorn,

Hi. I know you must be basking in the sun now. SD is supposed to get a fairly descent amount of rain. The snow level is going to stay pretty high though. Akiko and I decided to take some time away from the bagel shop, at least until you guys get back. Way too much drama over there and, quite honestly, some pretty disgusting conversations while we and other customers are trying to eat. Some customers were pretty upset the other day. Anyway, let me know anytime you plan to be there and we will go to meet you guys. We wanna come up to your place too. Send email when you can.

Risa,

Hi. I was not expecting you to be able to meet this week. Now involved in many projects which will probably take until the end of the month. Actually next month is pretty much free at this time. Hey, I wanted to tell you that anytime when you come over, bring your studying. When Ayumi comes over she brings her stuff and I work while she studies. Anyway, let me know when would be good for you next month. Hopefully it will be nice out and we can go walking. Send email when you can.

Julie,

Hi. I want to thank you for your email. I wanted to send this earlier today but was in the process of adding content to my English site. Anyway, basically not receiving replies from Shari was the main complaint. The fact you replied shows why your company has been in business all these years. Customer service is very important, even more now in this difficult economy.

Many of the issues concerning my unit are no doubt out of your control as the approval of the Brentwood HOA is required. I would be happy to reiterate those issues once everything on your end has been settled. Talk to you again.

Risa,

Hi. I was kinda hoping we could meet and you could be in some of the English site videos. Was able to persuade Akiko to be in a few but really not her thing. She is becoming quite popular on YouTube though. Seems like you might be too busy to meet now.

Anyway, the English site is doing phenomenally well with the addition of the new Classroom section. We are finally getting some pretty good income from the site. Because of this, and other factors, Akiko is leaning more towards staying in this country. It changes all the time though and I am waiting for her to finally decide.

Another factor is recently I connected with some old friends and made many new friends. The last few months were awesome with Akiko and I spending tons of time with these old and new friends. In fact, we go out for breakfast with many of them almost every day. We also made many dinner parties and were invited out for dinner a lot too. Really nice these days.

If you decide you want to meet, let me know. Talk to you again.

Shari,

Hi. I really think you need to check your email system. Already one email was returned from your server today. In addition, you guys really should set up an auto reply. It would at least avoid the problem of people thinking their emails are being ignored. It is good Internet etiquette and you will find most of the established companies are doing this. Something to this effect.

Your email has been received. We will reply within the next 24 hours.

At least this way the sender knows you received their email.

I own three very popular websites with over four thousand pages of content, including an English language learning site used in over 150 countries. I receive tons of email and make it a point to send a reply in a timely manner.

The pictures were sent yesterday and are now being resent along with the returned email from your server. I am going to resend every email previously sent. You will receive them within a few minutes. Thanks.

Hi. I really appreciate the offer. It would be really though. We need to be there around 7:30 am. We were planning to walk. Send email when you can.

Julie,

Hi again. I am still waiting for your reply to the original email which is now being resent. This email is also being sent to Shari Simpson. Originally all we wanted was for the one piece of wood to be painted which the painters, for some reason, forgot to paint. The painters told us not to move anything out on the patio since they planned to come back immediately to finish the job. They worked on the patio over a week ago. Now after closer inspection, we are requesting the entire patio be redone.

I was a real estate appraiser and property inspector for many years and know the difference between good and substandard construction. I cannot believe Mr. Wolven even subbed out to these guys. They obviously need to learn the usage of a T square. See the attached pictures.

The walls are not square and there is an excessive gap between the concrete and the lower sill. Really trying to work with you guys but my emails are ignored and attending an HOA meeting is pretty close to useless as residents are basically cut off after a few minutes even if their complaints are not totally expressed.

If there is no reply to this email this time I plan to resolve this another way. I am already in contact with an HOA attorney. Hopefully this mess can be resolved. Waiting for you to reply. Thanks.

Dear Julie,

Hi. I am writing to you about problems with one of your property managers. Shari Simpson is our only contact for issues concerning the Brentwood Condominiums. She needs to be educated in the ways of customer service. For over 20 years there was no need to complain about anything but recent problems now give me no choice.

Many repairs were made to the project over the last few months. Issues came up which Shari was notified about via email. She rarely returns emails. Last week our patio was redone. The wood was painted but the painters forgot a two foot section on the top rail. I told the painters about it and Shari. In fact, I sent pictures to her showing the unpainted portion of the patio. When there was no reply from her another email was sent. She then replied to my email and said I was “rude” and that my email was unappreciated and unacceptable. Another resident said Shari once slammed down the telephone and actually hung up on them during a telephone conversation.

THIS WOMEN NEEDS TO LEARN ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. No matter what kind of attitude Shari receives from an owner or resident, SHE HAS NO RIGHT TO HANG UP ON THEM OR CALL THEM RUDE AND NOT REPLY TO THEIR EMAILS. All she needs to do is set up an auto reply on her email account to let senders know their emails were received. The HOA fees from our project and other projects you work with pay her salary and keep YOUR company in business. I was self employed as a real estate appraiser for many years. The customer service afforded to my clients made my company very successful, allowing me to retire early. I expect nothing less from your company. I expect a full apology from Shari ASAP.

Our patio furniture and two bikes have been sitting in our living room for a week and a half now and still Shari has done nothing to get this work completed. She was sent two other emails and, as usual, no replies were sent. As a common courtesy, she can at least acknowledge receipt of the emails.

In any event, my wife Akiko and I plan to move everything back on the patio tomorrow, Friday, since we are entertaining guests this weekend. We are going to Home Depot to purchase paint and complete the project ourselves. I am going to recommend to our HOA that a new management company be retained for the Brentwood Condominiums. Please send email regarding all this when you can. Thanks.

Hi. I am taking the truck in early in the morning and then walking to the bagel shop with Akiko. We should be there about 8:15 for sure. Wait for us if we are a few minutes late. This is the map.

Einstein’s Bagels.

Actually the map kinda sucks. If you come up Navajo from College, you make a right into the shopping center before you hit Lake Murray Blvd. The Bagel shop is on the right immediately when you enter the shopping center.

We will be sitting outside. See you then.

Hi. I plan to be at the bagel shop with Akiko this entire week. I thought you were really funny today. I was thinking you would need someone in the videos with you if you really want to do this. Maybe Chris from the bagel shop would be good in the videos with you. If you really want to do this then I need you to do a bit of checking. Go to the slang section of my site.

http://funeasyenglish.com/american-english-slang.htm

Figure out maybe ten slang terms you want to focus on. If you cannot find them on my pages then send me the ten slang terms with the meaning and I can list them on the pages. Then I can write a script for the videos. This would be a lot of fun, the real reason for working.

Check out this page with the commercials.

Shari,

Hi again. I think you might want to set up an auto-reply for your email to let people know their emails were received. This would avoid many miscommunications. Something for you to think about. You know it might be better someday to simply meet instead of continuing to be two people on the other end of incredibly impersonal emails. Not ever a good way to communicate in my opinion. Akiko and I go to a bagel shop close to our home almost every morning. You are welcome to join us. If interested I can send you the details. Anyway, please confirm that you received this and the two other emails sent to you today. Thanks.

Shari,

Hi again. I really should tell you my wife and I became very frustrated with the way things are being run at the Brentwood. Many of our neighbors are complaining about the same issues but probably most of them are not putting their words into action. We complain about things which will become much greater problems in the future and still nothing is done. This is the reason for the “attitude” in my email.

The pine trees are a good example. Instead of removing these trees, which will inevitably need to be done someday, they actually put in more of these trees on the slope facing Navajo Road. The trees produce a tremendous amount of dust, debris, pollen, and sap not to mention being a fire hazard.

At this point we are getting ready to move back to Japan. Good news for you no doubt. We plan to rent the condo until values pick up in a few years, at which time we will be very happy to sell and move on.

Really unfortunate the issues facing this project are not put to a popular vote. Instead a few individuals are allowed to decide matters which detract from the livability, desirability, and the value of our units.

Incidentally, not trying to be “rude” at all. If this was your condo and you were in the same situation, no doubt you would be unhappy. We already spent a week with all our patio stuff in the living room which was unnecessary had they simply finished the job the same day last week. Send email when you can.

Howie

Shari,

Hi. I am forwarding the original email sent to you along with the pictures. Not sure why I even need to send pictures for such a simple matter in order for you to “look into this.” Even telling these matters to Mr. Wolvin usually turns into a 30 minute discussion about the inefficiencies of management and the HOA with him doing close to 100 percent of the talking. It is frustrating, to say the least, to get anyone to do anything around this place. Everything has become such a matter of protocol in this country that nothing gets done anymore.

I spoke with one of the patio workers yesterday to no avail. He finally blurted out that he cannot speak English and does not understand.

The patio was installed with a very wide space between the concrete and the wood. We are on a slope and now need to worry if anything falls on the floor of the patio it would roll down the slope and into the street. In addition, the wood does not seem to be treated which means the dryrot will come back in a few years.

In addition, I am requesting information from the HOA. The president stated at a previous meeting the mansards could not be removed from the top of the buildings because the adjacent condominium projects could sue our HOA for view issues. I consulted an HOA attorney two weeks ago who told me this is completely untrue. I would appreciate proof of the validity of the statements the HOA president made. Send when you can.

Hi. I cannot understand why they painted the new wood on the patio and neglected to paint a two foot strip on the top. I cannot understand why you do not reply to emails in a timely manner. Now our patio furniture and bikes are sitting in our living room, FOR A WEEK NOW. I took a picture and am forwarding this to the HOA. We are paying HOA dues for your salary and for you to expedite these matters and to ensure these repairs are done correctly. Our stuff is going back out on the patio this Friday if the painting is completed or not. After there will be no access. The unexposed wood will then be susceptible to termite damage. Really depends on Akiko. Either place is good for me though.

My English site finally made it in the rankings, especially with the new Classroom section. Now adding a lesson every day which is extremely time consuming. We plan to use the site as the base for opening schools in Japan if we decide to stay there.

Tend to get excited about adding content and sometimes neglect design and the overall user experience. Anyway, we began full on marketing finally this week. Akiko is posting the videos on a Japanese site and a Chinese site, both similar to YouTube. The Japanese site uses technology which allows the visitors to post comments directly on the video. Hi. Happy New Year. No worries about the email. Yup, Akiko and I spent a lot of time partying with friends this year. Kind of unusual for me because usually do not like the holidays. This year was different.

About your work. I know anytime you are going to be the top at whatever you do for sure. Even though you are not a native English speaker you can still find the motivation and determination to be the best at your career. I am going to support you anytime.

Kinda figured it would not be easy for you and Mimai to stay together. Relationships are difficult but long distance relationships are really really difficult. You cannot know what will happen though. You guys could meet again and get back together. It was the same with me and Akiko and now we are married with a baby coming.
