This is a story about an international couple raising and home educating three young boys on a small island in Japan, half living in buses, engaged in organic, self-sufficient farming in the middle of a mountain forest while dealing with climate, cultural, and personal challenges. These pages are about pretty much anything and everything all guided by our family motto, Taking Chances, Making Changes, Being Happy. Thank you very much for joining us on our ongoing crazy adventure.

- Getting Ready For Trip. Spending a couple days getting ready for our trip. Going to be taking the Shinkansen to Hakone on Friday and spending the night at an inn up in the mountains. Then on Saturday doing some sightseeing. We are going to wedding on Sunday in Tokyo. Monday we will watch the Super Bowl at a sports bar and then coming home.

- Facebook Post - We are heading up to Tokyo for a few days. Visiting hot springs with a view of Mount Fuji in Hakone. Spending next day partying with family and friends. Then going to a wedding. Finishing off the trip watching the superbowl game live in a restaurant in Tokyo. Should be plenty of fun. Football in rice farm.

- Hakone, Japan. We went to Tokyo via Hakone. Actually the main purpose of the trip was to attend a wedding. We took the very cool Shinkansen, bullet train, from Osaka to Hakone today. It was the first time for Shai to ride on this fast train. Actually I rode on this train many years ago when I went to Toyama. For business Akiko rides this train once in awhile and was probably not too exciting for her.

A bunch of individual posts from the trip which need to be matched to the pictures.

Ah, Asahi beer on the train. Does not get much better than this.

Saw Mount Fuji for the first time from the train. Took this incredible picture with the train traveling at warp speed....well kind of.

Wearing a Japanese Yukata on my way to eating a fabulous dinner.

This dinner was unbelievable and included in the price of the hotel room which was around 50 dollars per night. The hotel in Hakone is a geologically active region of Japan containing natural hot springs. The hotel had natural sulfur hot springs in and indoor room and outside. Was really relaxing.

We took the ropeway up the mountain to a place where they cook eggs in the natural sulfur hot springs. This was a bit of a challenge for me since I am not too fond of being in high places. It was amazing when the car reached the summit and Mount Fuji came into view. Everyone was clapping. The wind was really strong though.

It was freezing at the top making it pretty difficult to take pictures. You took your gloves off for only a couple minutes and could barely feel your hands. Still was able to take many incredible pictures of Mount Fuji and other cool things.

Mount Fuji. Seeing this mountain was one of the best experiences of my now five trips to and many years in Japan. Probably Amanohashidate in Kyoto and the cherry blossoms blooming on Yoshino Mountain rank towards the top of my favorite places.

Some of the numerous active sulfur vents dotting the mountainside.

This guy is cooking eggs in the natural sulfur hot springs.

These are the eggs after being cooked in the natural sulfur hot springs.

- Facebook Post - Drunk at karaoke. Wine was incredible. Food was incredible. Another after really warm hot springs picture. Now on Shinkansen heading for Hakone.

- Facebook Post - This was after a long time in the onsen....AKA hot springs. Mountain hotel room. Picture of Fujisan from the train. Thank goodness you can drink beer on this train in the morning. This train was really moving. Mountain train station close to the hotel.

- Facebook Post - Fujisan from ropeway. Picture in ropeway. Yup again a few more challenges in Japan. We ate fugu last night....a poisonous fish. Today went on a really high rope way.

- Facebook Post - Was hanging out with cousins tonight and a bit drunk again. Tomorrow is the wedding. Gonna post more pictures tomorrow. oyasumi nasai. Good night.

- Facebook Post - Now in Roppongi and going to friends house after wedding. Wedding reception picture.
Shai and his new girlfriends in Roppongi. Picture at friends house in Roppongi. US government housing was like being back in America. Good wine and conversation equals fun night.

- Facebook Post - Congratulations to New York for winning Super Bowl today. Shai continued to sleep during game. Shai was totally asleep during Super Bowl game. Hanging out and watching Super Bowl drinking beer in the bar. Spent morning at this American style bar watching the Super Bowl live.

- Facebook Post - Hotel buffet was really good. Tokyo Tower from room. Stayed at Westin hotel....really nice breakfast buffet.

- Incredibly Sick Now. Was planning to write more about the trip but now incredibly sick with the flu. Pretty high fever along with a headache and very little energy. Will write more later in the week.

- Actually Getting Better Now. Actually feeling better now after around 3 weeks of feeling like crap. What began as an awful case of the flu turned into bronchitis as usual. Pretty much stayed in an finished up a lot of site updates. This flu was really strong and even Akiko was sick and need to take off work a couple days....very unusual. Shai was also pretty sick for a few days. I really want to thank my friend Papiya Chakraborty for posting such a nice comment on this page.
