This is a story about an international couple raising and home educating three young boys on a small island in Japan, half living in buses, engaged in organic, self-sufficient farming in the middle of a mountain forest while dealing with climate, cultural, and personal challenges. These pages are about pretty much anything and everything all guided by our family motto, Taking Chances, Making Changes, Being Happy. Thank you very much for joining us on our ongoing crazy adventure.

Wedding Anniversary

- This was our 16th wedding anniversary today and we decided to spend it yak fishing. Lael and Ethan had a lot of fun and Shai was able to catch a small fish. At night we all enjoyed a small but fun family party.

Yak Fishing

- We spent the day yak fishing at our new adopted beach adjacent to Kumano beach and caught a pretty nice fish.

Beach Trash Pick Up

- We spent the day picking up trash at our new beach. We made this old tuna fisherman who looked like, and referred to himself as, Popeye. He gave us four fillets of a mahi mahi fish he caught.

Yak Fishing

- We spent the day yak fishing and right before getting ready to pack it up for the day, I caught a 40 cm fish.

Happy Birthday Ethan

- Today was a very special birthday and family party for Ethan who turned three years old today. His presents included a Bluey book and other fun stuff.

Really Sleepy

- A couple pictures of me and Lael getting ready to sleep with Teddy.

Interesting Beach Day

- We went to the beach to pick up trash and ended up getting a flat tire. I found a piece of wood and was able to use that to keep the jack stable and change the tire. While there, we met up with Popeye again who was walking to the onsen. He decided not to go because he wanted to give us a fish. After changing the tire we went to his boat and he gave us a 110 cm mahi mahi fish. We took it home and watched Akiko fillet the fish in the driveway in the pouring rain.

Beach Camping

- This was the first day of a two day, one night beach camping and yak fishing trip at our new beach. This was also the first night for Akiko and Ethan and Lael to sleep in the new tent. I slept in the bus. Shai slept in the old tent with the open entry. We all got pretty bit up by mosquitoes.

Daddy Day and Shore Fishing

- We decided to go shore fishing even though there was a chance of rain. Well it ended up pouring but me and Shai continued to fish in very cold and windy conditions. I caught a crab and Shai caught a target fish. Akiko and Ethan and Lael watched videos in the bus. A bit of fun at night with some homemade lego swords and play fighting. Then a nice meal and drinks to celebrate Daddy Day.

Farm Plowed

- Today our very good friend Miharasan plowed our farm with his tractor. This is the section where we plan to put in sweet potatoes.

Mountain Camping

- This was overnight trip number 43 and was for four days and two nights. This trip was all about getting rid of the huge pile of canopy which was cut months ago. This was completed on the first day. Then the second day was spent removing a lot of the sticky tress, some of which were already a couple of meters tall. While doing this had no idea was only a few centimeters away from the worst snake which was coiled up on the top of a cut oak tree. Put in new bee bottles and found 9 worst bees in the old bottle at the end of the road, and 16 in the bottle at the entry of the road. Then on the last day, the play area was finished up. Then went to Urada beach for a couple of hours before returning home.

Chess Masters and Beach Camping

- Lael and Ethan were playing chess in the toy room. This was also the first day of a three day, two night beach camping and yak fishing trip at our new beach. Today Shai caught a small fish. On the third day Ethan was standing naked at the beach and let out a bunch of poo. Then we let Ethan hold one of the fishing poles and something began pulling on the line very strongly. He actually caught a sting ray and was his first catch fishing.
