Announces the End of Censorship and Misinformation
Hey Friends. I decided to leave Facebook….well kind of. I am
not canceling my account. The fact is, Facebook is the only
way to get in touch with friends from Kenmore (hometown) and
San Diego, and these friends are really important. I am
planning to check, maybe once a month for messages, and I am
still accepting friend requests.
Beginning last year, I canceled basically all of my social
media accounts. This year, due to recent events, I am no
longer able to, in good conscience, use Facebook. Since the
reelection, billionaire high tech industry executives went
from extreme opposition to Trump, to ass kissing puppets.
The worst has been Zuckerberg and his decision to remove
fact checking from Facebook. Conservative influencers online
are now more and more able to lie their way into, and sway
the opinions of, young readers. The amount of misinformation
and hate online is appalling, and now with money and power
the only considerations, the momentum of the conservative
agenda is only going to increase.
This is not only an American phenomenon, here in Japan the
right wing conservative parties are gaining strength in
Japanese government and emulating Trump at every turn.
Social media has become a tool for conservatives. The
democrats and liberals need to find another way to fight
back before the current administration is too entrenched.
Unfortunately I cannot, at this moment, come up with advice
or solutions. At least for now, it seems like the only thing
to be hoping for is that there really is another
presidential election four years from now. I am also trying
to find a way to install a commenting application for
friends to use for communication. Anyway, best of luck to
all of you and keep the faith with the knowledge that the only constant in The
Universe is CHANGE.
