This is a story about an international couple raising and home educating three young boys in Japan, while dealing with climate, cultural, and personal challenges. These pages are about pretty much anything and everything all guided by our family motto, Taking Chances, Making Changes, Being Happy. Thank you very much for joining us on our ongoing adventure.

We Purchased a New House

Yup, we are now in our new home in Setouchi City in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. The house was extremely cheap and only cost the equivalent of $9,735 (based on the exchange rate when we closed the equivalent of Japanese escrow), and is fully furnished. Oy, such a deal. Anyway, the property is a two story house in Setouchi City, a basically rural, kind of a bedroom community (the suburbs), located a mere 6 km (4 mi) from the coast and the Seto Sea where there is fantastic fishing. The house has 650.2 m2 (6,998 sf) of land and 151.28 m2 (1628 sf) of living space in the house with a nice view of the surrounding mountains. There is also a storage shed and a huge garage with a second floor room. The property is located at the base of a mountain with the trailhead to a hiking trail a few meters away from the house.

The city is in an area known as the Setouchi region containing the Seto Sea and is known as the Aegean Sea of Japan since the location has the most sunshine and least rainfall in all of Japan.

I put a lot of house pictures on this page from the original listing on the real estate website. Yeah, the house needs some work, but for the price, come on now. Enjoy.
