This is a story about an
international couple raising and home educating three
young boys on a small island in Japan, half living in
buses, engaged in organic, self-sufficient farming in
the middle of a mountain forest while dealing with
climate, cultural, and personal challenges. These pages
are about pretty much anything and everything all guided
by our family motto, Taking Chances, Making Changes,
Being Happy. Thank you very much for joining us on our
ongoing crazy adventure.

WAKAYAMA TORNADO.
Went to a really local place for a last chance to catch fish. Began catching
sardines up to four at a time. Then late in the afternoon skies became really
dark. Saw a really small funnel forming in the clouds. Thought it might be a
tornado. Within a few minutes it began really developing. Then Japanese people
fishing began yelling tastumaki Japanese for tornado. They picked up all their
things and began running. We brought a lot of stuff and it took a few minutes to
pack. Within a couple minutes in was pouring. We got to the car and were totally
soaked. Although the tornado dissipated the light and noise from the
thunderstorm was incredible. Shai was freaking out. Today we were eating dinner
and talking and laughing about our incredible adventure.
WAKAYAMA CAMPING FISHING – DAY 2.
Woke up and ate breakfast. Found a fishing spot along the road. Was okay but
kept catching small Fugu a poisonous fish. Then ended up back at the original
place close to industry. Began catching sardines and other small fish. In the
late afternoon the skies became really dark. Then a really incredible event. WE
SAW A TORNADO!!!! This along with meeting some cool people and catching fish
made this camping trip worthwhile.
WAKAYAMA CAMPING FISHING – DAY 1.
Drove to Wakayama in the middle of the night. Took only a couple of hours. Found
a fishing spot but it was close to local industry and did not look to good. Paid
four bucks and went into a local park with a beach. Fished there until a
bazillion jet skiers showed up and made tons of noise. Found other fishing spots
on piers where you needed to pay and crowded. Gave up fishing for the day.
Camped out in a kind of park campground. Tons of mosquitoes and cats. After last
few incredible camping trips this really got off to a rough beginning.

WHY IS AUTUMN IN JAPAN GREAT?….SANMA.
Another BBQ tonight with Sanma AKA Pacific Saury. This fish tastes great on the
BBQ and is very good for you. During Autumn season these fish are caught and
sold fresh at local supermarkets. You gotta try this.

Now back from another Wacky Yama fishing trip. A couple weeks ago saw a tornado.
This weekend was a lot of wind from a typhoon. Found a really good free fishing
place. Caught a bunch of fish and were given a few more. Was really fun.
Planning to go again.
