This is a story about an international couple raising and home educating three young boys on a small island in Japan, half living in buses, engaged in organic, self-sufficient farming in the middle of a mountain forest while dealing with climate, cultural, and personal challenges. These pages are about pretty much anything and everything all guided by our family motto, Taking Chances, Making Changes, Being Happy. Thank you very much for joining us on our ongoing crazy adventure.

- Facebook Post - Nice stick bug.

- Facebook Post - NEW FRIEND - This very cute little green frog rode on the side of the car all the way into town the other day. Then we could not find it when we returned home. Today it crawled through the car window while we were driving to the beach. We came home and put it out in the farm. lol.

- Facebook Post - BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW - A beautiful rainbow this week over the lower farm. ROCKET MATSURI - Hey the rocket festival in Minamitane town was a lot of fun. FANTASTIC SHOW - Another Perseids meteor shower this year but with a bonus….thunderstorms in the distance. We woke up at around 2:30 am to watch the show. The sky was almost cloudless and the thin crescent moon was not scheduled to rise for another couple of hours. Numerous thunderstorms, probably over neighboring Yakushima, were sending off bright flashes of light. This, coupled with the streaking Perseid meteors, made for a fantastic show.

- Facebook Post - REALLY WEIRD - This is now the third day this frog hitched a ride with us on the car. Went with us for a ride into town, then to the beach actually crawling into the car, then today went all the way to the space center and back home again. ROCK BEACH - Went out for a bit of snorkeling at the rock beach close to the house today. ROCKET LAUNCH POSTPONED - The night rocket launch scheduled for tonight was postponed because of thunderstorms. AMAZING FISHING - Went fishing up north, 10 minute drive, in the early afternoon and caught a bunch of fish. Then came home and went to the place a five minute walk from the house and caught a lot more. This picture is the fish caught close to the house. Yummy.

- Facebook Post - WHOA STRONG EARTHQUAKE NOW - A few minutes before this island was shaking compliments of a 5.1 earthquake close to the north city….now found out was only 10 kilometers away. This house was really shaking a lot.

- Facebook Post - SPECTACULAR ROCKET LAUNCH - We were fortunate to see the rocket launch last night from the Tanegashima Space Center. After a week of thunderstorms, an incredible amount of rain, and a couple of postponements, the rocket lifted off with supplies to the international space station. This was actually our first time to see a night launch and quite honestly no way to adequately describe this incredible event. A beautiful starry night with a small crescent moon as a background. Since this was a nighttime launch it was possible to see the stages separate. Spectacular is really an understatement. Nice job JAXA for another successful launch. Until the next.

- Facebook Post - HANGING OUT - Hey. Our favorite beach is closed because of typhoons. Now eating at nice restaurant with reggae music and incredible view.

- Facebook Post - TYPHOON HARVEST - Beginning tomorrow Tanegashima is going to be visited again by an approaching typhoon. This could hit the island as a category 2 typhoon which would certainly wreak havoc on the farms. Decided to do a mega harvest today. CLOSED AGAIN - Yup our favorite beach was closed again thanks to a couple of typhoons close to the island. We decided to go to the Tanegashima Space Center beach. Was body boarding again on some unbelievable waves today. A couple times really slammed into the sand and it was time to come home.

- Facebook Post - TYPHOON GONI - Yeah when we moved to this island the locals insisted typhoons do not visit Tanegashima….yeah sure. Last night was our fifth typhoon in less than one year to wreak havoc on the farms. This storm actually came within about 60 kilometers of this island as a category 3 typhoon and at about 3 am last night it was crazy. We woke up to a mess in the farms and this tree, half of which was knocked over during the storm, barely missed our new car. Thinking about moving….nope. This place continues to be incredible and from tomorrow simply gonna pick up the pieces and move on. A weekend coming of beaches, BBQ, body boarding and relaxing. This island rocks.
- Facebook Post - A nice lobster from last night. Now staying at a really nice log cabin on the Kanahama coast. This is the view from the upper loft.

- Facebook Post - A lot of fun today at the Kanahama coast. This is a picture of the Kanahama coast.
