I grew up with music, particularly Rock and Roll.
Although my parents did not play any musical
instruments, there was a solid interest in music in my
family. My Mom would listen to pretty much whatever was
playing at the time while my Dad had more particular
tastes in music. My Dad
worked for a record album distributing company for about
17 years and used to bring home tons of newly released
"DJ" samples in the form of vinyl 45"s and LP's. We had
a huge phonograph record collection and were always
playing a wide variety of music. When I became older, I
worked for the retail division of the same company as my
Dad and had access to even more music.
My friends were also interested in music and we used to
get together often and listen to our favorite bands of
the 60's and 70's. Then came college in the 80's and my
passion for Rock and Roll continued to grow. Then along
came the grunge era of the 90's and with it a lot of
great bands and music. These songs from over 40 years of
music hold very strong memories for me and listening to
them makes me remember how simple and happy life was
back then. But alas, times have changed and the music
has changed along with them. Tonight I will raise a
glass of wine to the best 40 years Rock and Roll has
ever known.
Rock
and Roll Music
Rock and roll (often written as rock & roll or rock 'n'
roll) is a genre of popular music that originated and
evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and
early 1950s, primarily from a combination of African
American blues, jump blues, country, jazz, and gospel
music. Though elements of rock and roll can be heard in
country records of the 1930s, and in blues records from
the 1920s, rock and roll did not acquire its name until
the 1950s.
