A VERY CHALLENGING FEW MONTHS
The end of May until the end of July - unbelievable tsuyuu with record hourly
and daily and monthly totals.
Then almost the entire month of August was blazing hot, up to 37 degrees, with
little rain. Was able to hold the farms together.
And then from the end of August there were a couple of strong typhoons within
about a week of each other which missed the island but brought a lot of wind and
much needed rain.
Then another tropical storm began to form which we saw on the weather radar and
I said it was going to be a problem even before the JMA said anything. Spent
about four days getting ready for this typhoon. Cut all of the leaves off over
200 banana trees at the house and at the farm. Reinforced the greenhouse and
boarded up the windows. Tied up some stuff at the farm and harvested a ton of
stuff including most of our herbs and of course tons of bananas. Actually
writing this a few hours before the strongest section of the storm will hit the
island. Already stuff flying all over the place in the yard and hitting the
metal storm windows. The JMA is calling this a once in a century typhoon.
Anyway going to totally rewrite this and upload once this monster typhoon is
finished. Hopefully we can make it through with minimal damage to the farms and
property.
MEGA TYPHOON HITTING THE ISLAND NOW -
Hey friends. The island is getting slammed by a monster typhoon now. The last
few months were crazy. Posted a brief update about it on my blog.
Many challenges but working through it and staying positive. Going to post after
the typhoon is finished up. Until then.
Note: pretty sure this Facebook post was during this month. |

TYPHOON UPDATE -
Hey we basically made it through the typhoon with no damage except for a few
loquat trees getting a bit messed up and a metal trellis in the farm that got
blown over. Thank you all for your concerns and comments. The farms are doing
great and getting ready for the cool season crops now. Planning to post updates
soon. Until then.
