I decided to try and complete a couple of projects that I wanted to
do for years. The first is to sort through and keep or delete all of the old information from my
computer files. The second is to go through old pictures (the kind on film), and
match them up with dates from information contained in these files. I was going
to delete a lot of these files, such as emails, receipts, taxes, and checking account
information, but then I realized this information would be invaluable for dating
the pictures. In addition, my kids said they are really interested in my stories
and other stuff from back in the day. Anyway, it was simply easier to put all of
this information in one place, this blog, and then sort it all out after. The
information is pretty boring for those of you who
found this page....please read or ignore at your discretion. |

メールを送ったのですが、どうも配達されないとのメッセージが帰ってきましたのでもう一度送ります。
あなたのホームステイを受け入れてくれたのは、次ぎの方です。

場所は、法隆寺の近くで、環境の良いところです。

今日メールを受け取りました。本当にどうもありがとうございました。
ホームスティ先が見つかったと聞いて、本当に嬉しかったです。
その上、その方達の写真やインフォメーションまで送って頂き、
ありがとうございました。そして、朝食と夕食まで用意してくれる
と聞いて本当に恐縮いたします。何度も言うようですが、私の為に
余計な迷惑やお仕事を増やして欲しくありませんので、どうぞ
お気使いのないようにお伝え願えますか？でも、その食事の申し出には
感謝しつつ、ありがたくお受け取りいたします。
日本人家庭で日本食を食べるという事は私にとってとても興味深く、
日本文化を垣間見れる良い機会なので嬉しいです。
英語を教えて欲しいと書いてありましたが、私のホームスティを
引き受けて下さったお礼に、いつでもいくらでもお教えします。
それと、のぶみつさんの学校で、もし英語教師が必要だったりすれば
ボランティアで英語教師もしますのでいつでも言って下さい。
今の予定では８月の最終の週に飛行機のチケットを予約しようと
思っているのですが、その辺りから、仲田さんの家におじゃましても
よろしいのでしょうか？
でも、ホームスティ先が決まって、本当に嬉しいです。それも全て
のぶみつさんのお陰です。本当に私の無理難題を聞いて下さって
本当にありがとうございます。
日本に行ける日がますます近づいて来て、ますます嬉しいです。

こんにちは。お久しぶりです。今日はケイコちゃんに大切なお願いが
あるので、りえちゃんにメールを翻訳してもらってます。
私の日本語では意思の疎通が難しいので、翻訳してもらった方が
いいと思ったからです。
私は、８月の終りくらいにもう一度日本に行って仕事をさがそうと
思っています。知り合いの人にホームスティ先を探して貰ったり、
履歴書を作ったりしています。
その履歴書なんですけど、ケイコちゃんにお願いがあります。
ケイコちゃんに、私の「リファレンス」になってもらいたいのです。
（注：アメリカには日本の履歴書用紙みたいなものは存在しない。
各自でデザイン、フォーマットを作ってオリジナルの履歴書を作る。
リファレンスとは日本語に直接は訳せる単語がないが、しいて言えば
「参考人」。「参考人」とは自分（就職希望者）の事を知り、
推薦してくれる人の事。
アメリカの履歴書には最後に必ずこのリファレンス（参考人）
を載せ、それを見た企業や会社がその人に電話をかけ、就職希望している
人がどんな人物か、有能な人か、等を聞く。言わば、ていの良い
身辺調査みたいなもの。就職希望の企業が電話をかけて、就職希望者の
事を聞くので、当然希望者は信頼のある社会人を（勿論知り合いの）
リファレンスに載せる。大体、皆リファレンスに選ぶ人というのは
友人、以前の上司、自分が習った学校の先生等の社会的にも人間的にも
信頼されている人。）
私はケイコちゃんを信頼しているし、ケイコちゃんは仕事を持ち、
社会人としても信頼されているので、ケイコちゃんを選びました。
もし、ケイコちゃんがよろしければ、私の履歴書のリファレンスに
ケイコちゃんの名前を載せたいのですが、よろしいでしょうか？
何人かリファレンスを載せるので、ケイコちゃんに
企業から電話がかかってくるかどうかは分からないけれど、
もし、かかってきたら勿論私の事を推薦して下さい。
（勿論、もしも、ケイコちゃんがリファレンスを承諾してくれるのならば、
です。）

Hi. I am going back to Japan in about two weeks. I plan to stay in Ikaruga which
is a small town in Nara. Gonna be looking for a job and promoting the
International EFL Cafe. The site has become more popular and should turn out to
be the next business for me. The plan is to eventually open a language school in
the Kansai area of Japan. Anyway, I plan to keep an ongoing journal of the trip
including professional teaching entries and personal entries. It might be kind
of difficult to send email at first so this was the easiest way to keep in touch

Hi Howie:
Thank you for a e-mail and I am sorry that I have not write to you for a long
time. I really miss when I was a student!
So you are going back to Japan! I envy you. Last time I was there was 3 years
ago. I miss Japan and food there. My kids just came back from Japan. I sent them
to my parents house so they had to speak Japanese. I don't remember how much I
told you about my kids, but they could not speak Japanese at all. (They could
understand, since I try to speak to them in Japanese as much as possible.)
The day they arrive at my parents house I called and I asked my Mom how they
communicate, and she said they did not have any problem speaking Japanese.
Amazing!! I wish I could be like that. Now I am working at Japanese company and
use Japanese all the time, my English is getting worse and worse....also my
Japanese is getting weird. I am working part-time at Panasonic Industrial
Company, one of many subsidiaries of Matsushita Electric Corporation of America.
We have many Japanese Chu-Zai-In(expetriotes) in our company and most of them
are from Kansai. (HQ of Panasonic is in Kansai) They all speak Kansai-Ben, Of
Course, so sometimes, I mix up Kansai- ben and Kanto-ben, and create really
weird accent. Awful...
So are you getting Kansaiben?
Right now, I am working too much without overtime pay. ( Overtime without pay is
called 'Service Zangyo") so I am trying to make my job full-time. Since the
economy is still not in a really good shape, it may be really difficult, but I
really need full-time job! Then probably I can get paid vacation and go back to
Japan , right? I though about moving back to Japan, but because I will be a
single Mom soon and kids really don't want to go back, I decided that for now,
at least for several years, we will stay here in CA.
OK, have a safe trip! I will for sure check out your site.

はじめまして。 あなたを日本でお世話することになりました中田です。
家族全員がホームステイを受け入れることは、初めての経験ですから戸惑いもありますが、楽しみでもあります。
我が家は、紹介状にも書いたとおり大人ばかりの５人家族ですから、気をつかわれることは、ありません。
私は、つい最近英会話を始めたばかりの初心者です。毎日仕事に追われほとんど学習できないので、ハウイさん
を頼りにしています。妻は、幼稚園に勤めています。父親は、毎日小さな家庭菜園で楽しんでいます。母親は、
外国人が大好きでハウイさんが来日されるのをとても楽しみにしています。息子は、大学生で今は、京都市に
住んでいますが、時々戻ってきます。彼は、高校時代に一年間ニュージーランドで生活しましたので多少英語は、
話せます。
さて、斑鳩町は、田舎町で寺以外なにもないところですが、法隆寺(世界文化遺産）があるので、春と秋には観光
客が多いです。我が家から徒歩二分程度ですから、ハウイさんが来られたら案内します。
どうか我が家で１ヶ月間、有意義に過ごされますように。
また、関西空港には、本岡信光さんと一緒に出迎えに行きますので飛行機の便名及び正確な到着時刻が解りま

Hi. I wanted to send email to you before I went to Japan but I was busy with
setting up the computers. I was so happy to see you the day before the trip. I
was so surprised when you called. Now I am listening to the CD you gave me. I
also brought the very nice card you gave me. I want you to know that I keep
thinking about you a lot. I really am thinking that we could be an incredibly
good couple someday. Please think about it okay? You are so special to me and I
