Welcome to my genealogy pages. For many years I wanted to
trace my family history back as far as I could, more
specifically, the Rose family history. With all of the
mundane tasks and projects that fill our daily lives, it is
often difficult to find the time to work on a project of this magnitude. With us now
settled in our new (but old) home in the Japanese countryside, I decided it was time to finally tackle this
project.
Please note, this is an ongoing project and I am hoping to
connect with as many family members as possible to make the
Rose genealogical timeline up to date and even more
complete. If you want to discuss anything on this page, or
if you have pictures or stories you would like to share with

- June 14, 1970 - Barbara Rose (Eddie and Lil's daughter)

- Memory -
she became the Secretary of the Family Club, when Abie, Mary and family
moved to Detroit in 1946, faithfully recording, in Yiddish, the minutes of
every Family meeting, Channukah party and picnic.
- July 17, 1972 - Tami Moscoe
was born in TORONTO - 3rd child of

- July 20, 1972 - Marisa Zeidel

- April 14, 1974 - Edward Rose passed away
in WINDSOR at age 53.
- May 21, 1974 - Charlie Starkman passed away
in DETROIT, MICHIGAN at age
74.
- Memory - Honey continues: "I remember my father's and mother's idealism-their
desire to fight all the wrongs in the world. My father with his ever-
present cigarette, reading the paper, getting into heated discussions about
world events, the poker games with the uncles and aunts. I remember, as a
child falling asleep on a pile of coats in a loved one's home while a poker
game went on in the next room -- who knew from baby sitters?

- April 27, 1975 - The Rose Family celebrates its 30th
Anniversary in TORONTO at the Beth Myer Synagogue. The highlight of the
evening is an impromptu history of the family, related by Bella and Simon!

67.
- Memory - it was Marilyn's birthday; Sheldon recalls: " --- Dad was generally a
quiet reserved man, not often expressing his emotions. It would have to be
something very important for him to pick up the phone to call us (Ruth and
me). So whenever we did receive the call, it was important --- "you're
coming to the Family Meeting tonight ?" (not really a question). Well Dad,
Ruth and I are going to the hockey game. "Come after, for dessert and see
everyone." We usually came. It really was important.

Larry and Judi, 6th grandchild of Jean and Joe.
- June 1, 1977 - Hymie Marcus passed away
in LOS ANGELES,
CALIFORNIA at age 71.
- Memory - Joyce continues :-- "during the race riots in the early
40's, he owned a laundry in the Black section of Detroit. He went to the
store on Monday morning after the riots began without knowing what was
happening. When some customers saw him, they told him to get out of the neighbourhood immediately. Whites were being dragged out of their cars and
beaten, some even killed. Two Black men escorted him out of there by jumping
on the running boards. They carried baseball bats and wouldn't let anyone
bother him. He was well liked and respected in the community.

78.
- Memory - Honey reminisces: when I think of my wonderful mother, I remember that
she was always busy --- busy cooking (you couldn't enter her house without
being offered a delicious meal), busy helping my father in his store, busy
with her family, always worrying about everyone: her children, her brothers
and sisters (and there was no such things as "in-laws"), nieces, nephews and
grandchildren, busy with her friends and reading circle, her sewing and her
concerns for peace in the world.
